My name is Sheila and I now live in England. For many years I lived in Israel. I had a family and taught English in a kibbutz school. My daughter and granddaughter still live there. When I lived in Israel I did what I could to help make a peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine but sadly there were not enough people who thought as I do.
Being so far away, I could only watch in horror and shame and disbelief at what my adopted country was doing.

Children, you have every reason to hate the Israelis and to want revenge! However,I beg you, when you grow up, do not continue this 'everlasting cycle of violence'
Show the Israelis and the world that you are bigger, wiser and more humane than they are; that you will use peaceful means, that you will never stop trying to talk to them; that you can forgive, if not forget. Please do not let your innocent hearts be filled with hate - you are the ones who must do things differently.
I shall continue to try to change the hearts and minds of my Israeli friends.( I also want you to know that not all Israelis are 'monsters' -there are some people in Israel who are trying their very best to change things!)
I cannot undo what has been done to you but I sincerely hope that the new American president, Barack Obama will do his best to try to put things right for your future.
